Picture dining over a gorgeous sunset at a beautiful beach. That is what The Promenade Restaurant at Stamford Grand Adelaide can offer you. I know because I had my wedding reception in the ballroom upstairs. I specifically requested the curtains to be up so that guests could see the sunset as they enter. The bright rays also made my ice sculpture swan glisten. Don’t worry nothing melted the whole night. We caught wind that a new chef was at the helm and I (Mr Foodie) was invited to check out the new menu. After spending many years abroad chef Darren Greenwood has returned to Australia to continue his career focusing on seasonal fresh local produce.
Our evening started with a cocktail in the Sunset Lounge before we head into the restaurant. Soon after this eye catching, jaw dropping SA Seafood Tower came out featuring Eyre Peninsula Pacific Oysters, Spencer Gulf King Prawns, blue swimmer Crabs, Goolwa Pipis, Port Lincoln Mussels and Scallop Ceviche. Some amazing fresh produce right there. Next up was a classic Prawn Cocktail Salad once again using local produce.
While the seafood could have easily been a main event there was more. It was only the beginning to be followed by Caesar Salad with Pancetta and Caprese Salad which accompanied a few mains from the grill.
We were in for a treat with some Cape Grim grass fed Ribeye and SA Lamb Chops. The Charcoal Grilled Chicken also appeared a hit with kipfler potato and salsa verde to accompany it. The chicken has been marinated for 24 hours to give it that deeper flavour. Always marinade meat in my books! If you haven’t had enough seafood the SA King George Whiting with grilled asparagus and dill beurre blanc is for you.
Dessert was served in petit fours style so we could sample their menu. It’s a pretty all rounded dessert menu with different flavour profiles so there should be something for everyone. The choclate lovers have a Cherry, Chocolate and Almond Pavlova, Brownies and Chocolate Macaron while the Tangy Tart inclined can go for the Lemon Pie with Lavender Meringue and Blueberry.
It was a lovely night and I would like to thank Stamford Grand Adelaide for such great hospitality. Looking forward to see what the future holds and how Chef Greenwood changes the menu and takes the reins in time to come with his focus on seasonal produce.
