I think it’s obvious by now we don’t hibernate in winter. Adelaide certainly lifts their winter game and we still go to roof top bars. Recently we were invited to 2KW Bar & Restaurant for the launch of their Winter Food and Cocktails Menu. It’s time to find out what this swanky place has in store for us. They had a display set up beautifully with spices, fruits and liquor, all ingredients used to make these special winter cocktails. I loved the vibrant look. Also a huge plus that it helps me remember what goes in which cocktail and which one’s which. Top job! Cocktails can be a very personal taste but the two top picks that night were Vencermos #2 (taste of the tropics) and Donny’s Pink Pants (refreshing and fun).
It would be too dangerous to just serve delicious cocktails on empty stomachs so 2KW kindly prepared a tapas version of their Winter Food Menu. The creativity shows in this menu as they turn simple classic dishes into an adventure on the taste buds. Start off with Charcuterie that comes with roast artichoke puree, lemon gel, walnut and quince then delve into something richer like the Basa Gede Blood Sausage with cauliflower and herb sauce. Blood sausage is not something many would try, even I must admit I’m not a huge fan even though I like blood cubes. This one’s on the salty side. The dish of the night would have to be the Cream Corn Polenta with speck, mushrooms and chestnut. It was served with a raw yolk on top, much like steak tartare. I love chestnuts and mushrooms so this idea totally appeals to me.
2KW‘s Winter Menu is available now and it’s pretty warm and cosy in there!
