Bricks and Stones is one of the newer cafes to join our list of favourite brunch haunts. Situated conveniently next to the Unley Shopping Centre also means plenty of parking. The interior is exactly as the name suggests with an eye catching feature mural in the corner. Guess where I sat.
An array of scrumptious Abbott and Kinney patries were on display, tempting as they may be I left it. My eyes soon shifted to the cabinet where cakes, tarts and amazing panini sandwiches beckoned. I haven’t even looked at the menu yet! With all the discipline I could muster I sat down and browsed through the menu (not before seeing the specials blackboard). Surprisingly with all the rich temptations it was Greens and Grains that drew my attention.
It just sounded fresh and crunchy to me though I’m not all that healthy so a side of bacon was added. The dish arrived and sure enough it was a decent bowl of mixed greens. Green beans, broccolini, snow peas, zucchini, avocado, mixed grains with a perfect runny poached egg giving everything a creamier taste.
Mr Foodie was predictable as ever with his order of Beef Burger from the specials board. This was a house made beef pattie with blue cheese, house made BBQ sauce and onion rings. It was one delicious juicy burger. On a separate occasion we tried their Fried Chicken Burger too and it was excellent!
So here’s the thing. We ended up getting a sweet pastry anyway. Reason? I ate too slow. I was taking too long to munch my veges while Mr Foodie devoured his burger in moments so he went to buy a pastry to eat. What an excuse!
It’s a nice neighbourhood place with a seasonal menu so things are kept fresh and interesting. I have also since returned for a couple of other dishes and they’ve all been delicious. There is ample seating with an outdoor section if you want to up your Vitamin D. I have to say it can get pretty noisy inside when they’re busy but otherwise everything else ticks the boxes!
