Nanyang Cafe has been thriving in Renaissance Arcade for years. Easily a popular spot during those work days lunch time rush especially among Uni students because it is simply affordable with generous servings. For Malaysians, it’s pretty authentic and close to home. I liken it to a hawker centre all in one cafe.
As much as many things on the menu appeal to me I always wind up ordering Chinese Roast Meats on dry soy tossed egg noodles. The sauce is different to Hong Kong soy noodles, it’s a bit sweeter and deeper in taste. It’s like Wanton Mee (noodles) minus the wanton. My indecisiveness usually results in a combo of meats – BBQ Pork, Roast Pork and Roast Chicken. Here you can get laksa, fried rice, salted fish rice, beef rendang, curries, Hokkien mee, Har Mee (Prawn noodles), Char Kuey Teow, Indian Mee Goreng and other Malaysian favourites. Mr Foodie opted for Crispy Noodles this time after enjoying the one at Papparich. It’s the gravy with a mix of seafood, pork and veges that gives it the delicious taste. As the noodles get soaked in gravy there’s part of it that’s still crunchy and the rest just going soft. I can’t really explain but it’s so good. Just simple pleasures.
I have come here time and time again over the years and still enjoy it very much. Food comes out fast and tables turn fast so if there’s a line it probably won’t take you long to be seated.
