I don’t head up to Stirling very often but when I do, Red Cacao draws me there. I was first introduced to this chocolate wonderland by a Yelp event which left me with a big grin on my face. They are so passionate about what they do. The chocolate quality is exquisite and they are creative with the flavours. Flavours that you would think subtle but really shine through. It’s a little hidden down an alleyway but it always seems busy. Very much a gem not only in Stirling but all of Adelaide.
On Friday nights they serve a special dessert menu that changes seasonally. Something different from the cakes and tarts in the cabinet (which you can of course still have). On this occasion I finally had a Friday off early enough so I could get dinner and head there for dessert before they closed. Service has been friendly and welcoming every time I’ve visited, love the vibrant energy.
The Flower Pot took my fancy partially because I knew it would be visually attractive. I like pretty things. Sure enough the presentation was elegant. Creamy smooth dark and white chocolate mousse layered with salted caramel topped with honeycome, mint, edible flowers, “dirt” and a pretty lemon macaron. A rich dessert but such delicious decadence. I only ever get dessert or hot chocolate because I can never finish them both so for drinks, I had peppermint tea which came with a little bite of dark chocolate.
Mr Foodie jumped at the chance to order Bread and Butter Pudding with mint and lime sorbet. To his delight it was a very satisfying dessert. It was refreshing to have some sorbet to cut through the richness only to dive back in again with a fresh palate. He also ordered the Aztec Dark Hot Chocolate. Dark hot chocolate is the best and this one comes with chili and cinnamon for extra spice. It’s spicy enough that you feel it at the back of your throat but not too spicy that you’re gasping for milk. It’s just right in our humble opinion. The hot chocolate is so smooth and velvety it’s easy to keep sipping away.
Red Cacao really is the full package. Their chocolates are world class, the chocolatier is friendly and passionate about his work, desserts are delicious and service is great. If you haven’t tried it, maybe it’s time to make a trip up to Stirling!
