Westfield Marion has been under some construction for a while with blocked up areas and temporary entrances. It was all a bit of a mystery until last week when the curtain dropped. We were invited to see this new addition while it was still brand spanking new and it is a much needed breath of fresh air. This new area is in the old entrance downstairs where Woolworths is located. You are greeted with some fine wooden slats and modern halogen lights and then the big WOW! sinks in. The target was a market feel with street vendors and I think they have threaded that needle.
Aldi and an Lau Peking Asian Grocery store are new additions for shopping along with a florist, fish monger, butcher, yoghurt shop and more. Even The Cheesemonger has been given space to stretch its wings increasing the variety of cheesy and meaty goodness.
Your dumpling needs are now being addressed at the Lau Peking Asian Grocer that doubles as an eatery too. There is a selection of steamed and pan fried dumplings along with noodles and more.
The food is where my eyes dart to and there are a few nice additions starting with some Mediterranean delights from Panacea. On offer is a wide selection of tapas and nibbles with some great looking pizzas too. I had to order their signature pizza named “Panacea” which was tomato salsa, mozzarella, caramelised onion, bacon and chilli. The bacon part is what sold me as everyone love bacon!
There is more Asian food on offer with HoKoPo offering fresh noodle dishes and fried chicken. I was given instruction to obtain their Tuna Poke Bowl which was fantastic value and very fresh! They also do a wrap that was selling quite well on the night though I have yet to try it. The other Asian addition is the Vietnamese stall Vietnam Quan which finally brings the Banh Mi to Westfield Marion along with a healthy selection of Pho and other Vietnamese favourites.
This next one is what Ling is most excited about – Warong. A popular Indonesian/Malaysian eatery located in the CBD that now also call Marion home. Crowds of people engulfed this place and they had to shut up shop an hour early as they had sold out of pretty much everything! You can expect dishes like Nasi Lemak, Mee Goreng, Hainan Chicken Rice, Beef rendang and Satay.
After all this yummy food you can relax with a coffee and a sweet treat at the renowned La Madeleine. Reward yourself with their artisan pastries and I can vouch for their pistachio and raspberry croissant as it was so delicious I was licking my fingers for at least a couple of minutes. If you can peel your eyes away from the food you are scoffing down you will see quirky signs, artwork and rustic pieces to encase you in that market atmosphere. Towards the end while ordering a block of English Red Leicester cheese from the Cheesemongers I heard the vendor from Carousel shouting out specials on strawberries I thought I was in the Central Market. Well done Westfield!
It is inevitable if you live in the area to not see this wonderful addition but even if you live a little further away I do implore you to take some time out and visit Westfield Marion to get some quality street food while enjoying the bargains!
