Some time back I popped by Turi Bar e Caffe for a quick lunch and a long overdue catch up with a friend. It was just past lunch hour so we got lucky with seating. This place always seems to be buzzing, with a perfect location amongst offices I’m not surprised. There’s tapas and hot meals for a longer lunch or foccacia rolls and paninis for the quick takeaway. Since both of us weren’t heading back to work we took a look a the cocktails menu. For me it was the good old lemon lime bitters but my friend ordered the Sicillian Kiss. A refreshing drink of Gin, Campari, Pear Nectar & freshly squeezed Orange Juice they claim to be an offer you cannot refuse. I believe my friend enjoyed it greatly.
Not wanting anything to heavy we decided to share a Cotoletta di Pollo Panini. Crumbed parmesan chicken breast sounded like the best idea especially with coleslaw in fresh toasted bread. With all the glowing reviews for this place we were rather excited for our lunch. To our disappointment the chicken itself was dry and the panini as a whole was also rather dry to eat. There wasn’t enough coleslaw and it probably could have done with some sauce. With that dryness it soon became bland. As usual, wanting to try different things we also opted for the Tasting Plate hoping to sample a nice antipasto style platter. At $27 a plate it came with some green olives, artichoke, caper berries, arancini balls, Fontina cheese, sun dried tomatoes, sopressa and taralli (cracker). To be honest we thought the price was a bit steep. The arancini balls were okay, the four slices of sopressa was fine and the taralli was really hard and dry. I know they are crackers but I have had much better taralli before.
Turi also offers pasta, salads, meats and burgers as well as sweet treats. Their reviews may have been based on their other dishes but to be completely honest, from what we had today it didn’t hit the mark especially when there is strong competition in the CBD even for similar dishes. Nevertheless it remains a busy lunch time spot. They also serve breakfast though seeing as I don’t work in the city I can’t see myself rushing back anytime soon.
