Their shakes have taken Instagram by storm and has quickly grown huge popularity on social media. By the time they opened their doors they had already amassed a huge following thanks to the power of pictures and food porn. Recently opened on the famous King William Road is your latest brunch and dessert destination – 50SIXONE. We had a chance to attend the media launch for a first look at this dessert bar and kitchen named after the postcode of Hyde Park. Inspired by a New York dessert bar, co-owners Simon Fiocco and Athony Canova set their sights on creating this new experience for Adelaidians. The fit out is gorgeous with exposed brick, custom-made furniture and natural colours. It almost resembles a loft in Brooklyn.
Dining here isn’t just about the food, it’s also about the visual experience, the theatre of food. Something out of this world and whimsical like their Insta-famous shakes and dessert cocktails. We had sample tastes of a few of their shakes and I gotta say the Oreo Glad to See Me is a favourite. I have to note their exceptional balance and the waiting staff’s efforts in balancing an entire tray of slipping zeppoles. We thought it was stuck on tight until we held the jars ourselves. Clearly my hand balance is crap. They also boast Australia’s most expensive ice cream touched by real gold priced at $55 each! By the way, 50SIXONE does not judge anyone who wants dessert for breakfast. Yep they are available from 7am-11pm.
While desserts are the star here their breakfast and lunch menu shouldn’t be sidelined at all with Breakfast Sliders, Bonjour Brioche, Crispy Corn Fritters and some colour themed breakfasts. All Things Red feature baby beetroot, radish, tomato, capsicum, red chilli and poached egg while All Things Green is a healthy plate of fresh kale, snow pea, broccoli, sugar snap pea, sprouts, avocado, green chilli and poached egg. One of my favourites was the Smoked Salmon Slider and a sweet treat of Red Velvet Pancakes with mascarpone.
To us, 50SIXONE has created a menu that’s different, something new in Adelaide and that’s exciting. It was fun to be there, it was fun to see our food being made and presented. It’s an experience that they want to create and it’s an experience I had. These guys are open 7 days a week from 7am-11pm with the Breakfast & Lunch menu finishing at 4pm. I’ve never been there at night but they say it’s a different feel as it transforms into a bar. Looks like I’ll just have to go back, after all there are some more desserts on the extensive menu that tickle my fancy.
Disclaimer: Foodie Ling was invited to 50SIXONE as a guest.
