One fine Sunday morning we decided to catch up with a friend for breakfast. Of all the healthy brunch choices we could have had, the cravings and curiosity were for the one and only Chicken & Waffles. An iconic dish we somehow didn’t manage to eat while we were in America. Nordburger has been open for breakfast quite some time from 8am-11am daily but Chicken & Waffles you can only get on weekends so off we went to the Hindmarsh branch.
The breakfast menu is of course a la Americana, resembling a diner breakfast minus pancakes. The menu may be reminiscent of McDonald’s with items like Egg Muffin, Bacon and Egg Muffin and Sausage and Egg Muffin.
I went for the Sausage and Egg Muffin consisting of fried egg, pork and fennel sausage patty, American cheese, Red-eye mayo, ketchup and English muffin. Quite a filling breakfast on its own though I found the patty too salty.
The real star we were here for today was of course the Chicken and Waffles. For those of you who can’t grasp this concept you have to try it. It’s like pancakes and bacon with maple syrup. It works. The waffle is a soft doughy waffle and it comes topped with three decent pieces of buttermilk fried chicken. Clearly it wouldn’t be complete without butter and maple syrup. Like I said, I didn’t promise a good start to the day, only a yummy one. The fried chicken was pretty good, well seasoned and still juicy inside.
Mr Foodie just had to get the full package and went for one of every single add on possible to make an even bigger breakfast. He even ordered an American filter coffee ($1) for the full experience. He slapped his extras of bacon, sausage and cheese onto the waffle and drenched it in maple syrup. I posted the video on social media and I’m pretty sure everyone was looking for the heart attack emoji. Nevertheless, it was a heavy breakfast and protein fix to start the day!
