Froth & Fodder is almost a little off the beaten track, tucked away behind the Kurralta Park shopping centre. Step inside to find a lovely vintage inspired world of good coffee, fresh juices and good food. The sort of place you could lounge and relax, the sort of place you’d be proud to call your local. Sadly it’s not my local but thank goodness for cars huh.
We ordered ourselves a latte and a fresh juice to start the day as we perused the menu. These guys use Tweedvale milk here, my absolute favourite for the most beautiful creamiest milk. Yay Adelaide Hills!
The day we went, they had a special on the board that made us look twice. It was their twist on a Croque Monsieur with the addition of mushrooms. When the dish arrived it was quite a sight to behold. Standing tall were two thick slices of sourdough bread sandwiching some delicious sautéed mushrooms and cheese topped with melted béchamel sauce, lightly melted under the grill. To make you eat your greens they throw a bunch of fresh rocket over the top and grate more cheese over it. Seasoned with cracked pepper of course! The béchamel sauce was just a bit too starchy that day and perhaps needed a bit more grilling but it was a lovely dish in itself. Great idea with the mushrooms.
I went for the F&F Cobb Salad. Something I did miss from America only in Australia, we don’t drench it in a litre of ranch sauce. Awesome. I love good cobb salads because they’re chopped for easy eating, contain such a mix of ingredients which makes it interesting to eat with the different flavours and textures. The one at Froth & Fodder came with grilled chicken, crisp bacon, diced tomato, feta cheese, fresh avocado, salad greens and a perfectly poached egg on top. Watch that runny yolk bless the salad beneath with it’s golden creaminess. The dressing was a citrus aioli and in just the right amount. Yes America, please take a lesson here. Loved this salad, would order it again and again.
Confession time. I’ve sat on this for a long time, way longer than I should have. It’s one of those slipped through the cracks moments and I’m sorry for not sharing this sooner. Anyway, I think I’m overdue for visiting again!
