If you think King William Road couldn’t get any better with all the gorgeous establishments of fashion, food and artisan goods. Think again. Last week we attended the launch of KWR’s latest member – Godi La Vita. Owned by husband and wife Federico and Laurie Godi, they have drawn inspiration from Feredico’s Italian background to offer diners an indulgent food and wine experience.
Godi La Vita translates to ‘Enjoy Life’ so Federico and Laurie invites you to come in and do just that. The launch night provided us a sample of what patrons can expect whether you want a quick lunch, takeaway, or a sit down meal. As soon as we arrived we were greeted with the warmest hospitality and welcomed by a friendly team of staff. A couple were fun and cheeky, all were incredibly accommodating of blogger demands, we had fun. Let’s just say they had a lot of bicep training that night. A drink was offered, their own Chardonnay Pinot Noir. I won’t call it house wine because it is better than that, it is the Godi La Vita wine label. Sparkling, slightly sweet and refreshing it was a good start to the night.
We noticed quite a gathering at the back which we soon discovered was cheese related. Like bees drawn to a flower, we made our way to pay the cheese wheels a visit. On the left, big marshmallowy balls of Bocconcini. Oh we don’t have to share? NOM! Move along from the light delicate taste to something French, Brebirousse D’Argental. This brie style cheese imported from France was simply creamy, smooth and buttery. Beautiful.
I’m a strong cheese kind of girl, vintage cheddar any day so the hard cheeses got me excited. We started with the English style cloth bound cheddar which he chiseled chunks out for hungry cheese lovers. It was recommended with honey and boy did they have a fabulous truffled honey. I’ve never had cheese with honey before and I think this might be my new favourite thing. The wheel at the front was La Perla Nera cheese from Italy to be had with quince compote macerated in balsamic vinegar of Modena. The quince compote was sensational. Last but not least one of my favourite cheeses with such strong umami flavour it just makes me happy. Parmigiano Reggiano. Possibly the only thing in Western cuisine with that much umami (don’t quote me on this). Now it was a first for me to try this with Balsamic Vinegar of Modena. What a discovery. My second new thing after cheese and honey. All this time I’ve just been crackers and quince paste. Alas we had to make way for others. Meanwhile antipasti was served with colourful large plump olives, grissini and cured meats.
When the plan to open a restaurant was becoming reality, they wanted to have their own wine so they commissioned Wine Resources Australia to make it happen. Their Shiraz is blended with McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek grapes while the Sauvignon Blanc is from the famous Marlborough region of New Zealand. The range also includes Moscato, Chardonnay, Chardonnay Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc Semillon.
As the night went on, food continued to flow in true Italian fashion. Never leave hungry. One of the highlights was the Deep Fried Tortellini with Creamy Mushroom Sauce, the sauce was so delicious I want a whole soup. The toasties were brilliant with a good choice of cheese, loved the flavour. I also enjoyed the zucchini rolls and lamb skewers that were deliciously tender. As for desserts, they were delectable and indulgent with the Panna Cotta being our pick. We did keep going back for cheese. So, order a cheese platter if you wish. For now, feast your eyes on what we had that night.
Towards the end of the night we had a peek at their menu. Serving breakfast through to dinner, they have a selection of salads, paninis, antipasto and dessert on display for takeaways or dine in. If you’d like something a bit heavier, there’s always pasta, steak, salmon, spatchcock, ribs and seafood. Being typical me the Fettucine Al Ragu already caught my eye! Their breakfast menu is a little different to your regular bacon and eggs or eggs florentine so if you’re after a different experience, pop in to Godi La Vita.
Thank you for having us and showing us great hospitality at your official launch!
