On my well-deserved holiday in Bali and found myself in a great restaurant called Merah Putih. I saw they had a local beer on the menu called Stark Dark Wheat so when in Rome…….or Seminyak.
This was the only low point of the meal as the beer missed the mark by a mile. It had a high carbonation that quickly made your mouth frothy and lacked body. The colour was a murky brown and the head dissipated quite fast. A very run of the mill basic beer that is made in quantity and not quality. It had a sour flavour to it with even hints of vegemite if you believe! The overall burnt aroma never did it justice and did not belong in such a nice establishment. This came off as a cheapo beer that should be only found in dodgy supermarkets next to that iffy Warung (Indonesian Café).
If you see it in Oz don’t waste your money as you will be paying import prices and if you’re in Bali and it’s cheaper than water…..pay the extra for water.
