Amongst the plethora of restaurant choices on Hutt Street lies A Hereford Beefstouw, quite a bit different from the Aussie steak house or fine dining restaurants. A Scandinavian steak house if you will, originating from Denmark in 1971.
The decor inside reminds us of Ikea. Light wood, clean lines, bright, practical and simple with trapeze lights. Wines were proudly on display while the salad bar stood in the middle of the restaurant beckoning you to compile your own creation. Ordering is something I’m familiar with, ticking your choices on the sheet with the pencil tied under the table. Your napkin is also hooked under the table.
Pretty cool water bottle
Though famous for their steak, I haven’t exactly had that yet. What drew us there was a Facebook post on a Tuesday morning. Yes, their Super Tuesday lunch time special of 2-for-1 Cheeseburger and fries! Naturally we both had that, patty cooked medium, still pink in the middle. The cheese melted nicely over the beef patty and each bite was made juicier with tomatoes and lettuce which also brought a fresh taste to it. The side chips were a generous serving that we happily nibbled away at. Each cheeseburger would normally set you back $18 so to get two for that price is a real bargain especially with the quality of beef that they use.
I did have a chance to peruse the menu for future reference and took to the Gravad Lax Salmon carved at your table and obviously the variety of steak cuts. Their Kansas City Beef Short Ribs also caught my eye. Steaks are served with potato and you can choose to add a salad or even a lobster tail to it for extra. Adding a salad gives you unlimited access to their salad bar, namely The Garden. It looks like we‘ll just have to come back and try it next time!
