Upon my beer pilgrimage in New Zealand I discovered many gems and this was amongst them. This Kiwi brewery is in Hunua ranges south of Auckland. In 2011 it was bought by Asahi but it is still business as usual. As the name suggests it is a coffee stout and it sure does have a strong espresso flavour to it. I think this may be my alternate to waking up in the morning if it were socially acceptable!
The Arabica beans really punch out in flavour with a milder oat tone to bring it down from being too sharp. The carbonation sits at a mid-level and the alcohol content is 6.5%. I must admit this is perhaps the most coffee powered stout I have come across so if you are a fan of the java then seek this bottled mecca out. The bottle is man sized at 500mL so plenty to enjoy or share if you absolutely must.
