This pony trots in at 5% alcohol and is a nice refreshing brew for a warm day. I do find the Prancing Pony range a little bitter for my taste though this one is rather pleasant and my favourite of their range. It is an American amber inspired ale and has some citrus flavours bursting through. There is also a toffee tone to it which keeps it from springing away into lighter ale and gives it a nice body.
I reckon this is a great ale to have with some nice salty snacks or red meat. The carbonation is medium to high which is fine for a warm day as it will rinse the day’s heat out and cool down the fire in your throat! The Brewery name ‘Prancing Pony’ might just be a reference to the pub in The Lord of the Rings’ fictional town of Bree which goes by the same name. I asked the brewer and never got a straight answer, only a sly smile.
