What is the fuss about Taiwanese fried chicken you ask. It’s big and it’s delicious. Born in the streets of Taiwan night markets, you could liken them to schnitzels, large very large pieces of fried chicken. Until now we have been getting our fix in Malaysia where similar stalls have popped up in shopping centres and night markets there.
Hot Star Large Fried Chicken is a franchise, a franchise so successful it’s even across Australia. Adelaide’s first and only store so far fits in perfectly on Gouger Street. They claim to use 100% chicken breast with no processed meats, preservatives nor frozen chicken. Each order is cooked fresh, an important step in fried foods.
The menu is simple. Fried chicken, fried chicken. Fried chicken in one piece or fried chicken bites. Then there’s sides of chips and mushrooms. That is all there needs to be. We were there at 9.30pm at night and people were constantly coming in to order. The most popular item was the large fried chicken and that is what we had.
It’s delicious. Simple as that. Chicken breast flattened in a crumb coating. Crispy to bite into, very tasty seasoning with juicy and tender chicken inside. Ours was so good we got a pack of Chicken Bites too after that. It’s really good value too at $7.90 for the XXL Fried Chicken larger than your hand and $5.90 for a pack of Chicken Bites.
The best part? They open 11am-11pm. Do yourself a favour and get one. Be careful, it really is freshly fried and very hot!
