I recently caught up with a friend at this little spot on Goodwood Road that I’ve been wanting to try ever since it opened earlier this year. A small cosy cafe, really quite perfect for chilling with a coffee or juice over the newspaper (or magazine, whatever takes your fancy). It was a sunny winters day, thinking we wouldn’t get many of those we decided to sit outside.
The menu is written on large brown papers clipped to the wall, I find something friendly and inviting about that. After tossing a few options up and finally deciding, I was tempted by more cakes, cookies and treats in the glass case when I went in to make my order. With all the mighty discipline I had mustered up in me, I think I stayed on the healthier track.
Green Smoothie $7
I wanted something light and refreshing to drink so Green Smoothie ticked all the boxes with a mix of spinach, apple, coconut water and mint. Refreshing and satisfying. Successfully skipped the caffeine fix today. YEA!
My brunch buddy’s Homemade Beans with Rocket, Feta, Bacon and Sourdough
Smashed Avocado $9 (plus smoked salmon $4)
I could smell the bacon on what felt like everybody else’s table, ridiculously tempting but I stuck my ground and chose to have smoked salmon with my Smashed Avocado. I requested rye bread instead and they were kind to oblige. Lovely creamy avocado smeared on fresh rye bread with smashed peas that hold bursts of sweetness topped with crumbled feta, mint and cracked pepper. This was amazingly fresh tasting and guilt free. A lot of people moan about paying for avocado on toast but at $9, this is a decent price (salmon or bacon is $4 extra). In fact the pricing of all food menu items I found very reasonable.
I did really enjoy hanging out there, people watching, sipping my green smoothie and catching up with my friend. I’ll have to bring Mr Foodie back here for brunch another day.
