Crust Gourmet Pizza Baris definitely one of my favourite pizza places and I’ve had a lot of pizza from them in the past, both as a paying customer and also in collaboration with them. I received a lovely surprise in the post of the new menu media kit and a voucher to try some exciting new flavours. Crust is rather innovative with their menu, combining and introducing flavours from different cuisines. This menu is no different. As usual Brighton is our closest store so down the hill we go! That night we were going to see the movie Chef (which is a great movie about food, family, passion and discovery) so this was a perfect dinner solution before the movie.
1889 Margherita $21.00
One of the featured pizzas in the new menu is in fact a classic that dates back as far as 1889. That’s right, it’s the Margherita. First commissioned in 1889 in honour of Queen Margherita, this has now become a classic favourite with tomato base sauce, juicy tomatoes, mozzarella and fresh basil. You can’t beat a classic and this pizza didn’t disappoint.
Singapore Chilli Crab Pizza $24.00
I love seafood, actually I love everything, nevermind. But I do love seafood. Spaghetti granchio is one of my favourites which not enough restaurants do! Singapore Chilli Crab Pizza sounded very interesting to me so I ordered it, simple as that. Mr. Foodie was a bit skeptical but we got past that. I tempted him with chilli. With a hoisin sweet chilli, garlic and tomato base, this pizza is topped with Alaskan King Crab, shallots, caramelised onions, coriander and fresh chopped chillies. It is spicy when you bite into the chilli so if you are not a fan of spicy food, just flick the fresh chilli off, the pizza base sauce itself is not that spicy. This pizza definitely has the Asian inspired flavour. I think our pizza was slightly over baked hence the burnt looking caramelised onion but it still tasted good. Sweet, spicy, sour and Alaskan King Crab really excites the taste buds!
Elvis Crumble $11.50
Savoury pizzas aside, Crust’s New Menu also features Elvis Crumbledessert pizza layered with banana chocolate chip cake, caramel peanut butter and topped with baked crumble, fresh banana then dusted with icing sugar. I saw chocolate and peanut butter, that’s about all I cared. It’s a pretty delicious dessert combination though it was a bit dry. I would think some chocolate fudge sauce would easily fix that….mmmm chocolate.
Once again Crust didn’t disappoint and continues to be one of my favourite pizza bars. Their new menu combines favourite flavours onto a pizza using fresh premium ingredients. Don’t really want chilli crab? No worries. How about Sangria Duck Ragu, Vietnamese Chilli Chicken, Her Bread with Hummus and Olives, Chicken Tikka, Roasted Beetroot or Spiced Pumpkin Pizza? For those who love salads, they’ve got you covered with a Roasted Beetroot salad – baby spinach, feta, crushed walnuts, herbs, honey dressing OR Radicchio Salad – shredded radicchio, feta, walnuts, basil, mandarins with balsamic glaze.
We packed up our leftovers and went to watch the movie. It’s a good job we had because that movie makes you soooo hungry! I’d really like to try the duck ragu another day.
These pizzas were provided by Crust at no cost but all opinions are my own.
