When I went back to Malaysia earlier this year my brother took us to this place in Publika in Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur. I loved the name, just simply direct. Fat Boy Burger serves burgers (surprise surprise), hot dogs, salads, thick shakes and all things American. This place is Mr. Foodie heaven. I liked the decor inside, relaxed and fun. The logo made me giggle, an angry looking fat boy. Welcome to Fat Boy’s Burger Bar.
Mr. Foodie’s top he picked up in New York without realizing what swag was
I was studying the menu and trying not to drool. You can start with appetizers like chilli cheese fries, onion rings, chilli queso corn chips and mozzarella cheese sticks or head straight for their specialty burgers. You can order their suggested creations with funky names like The Elvis, Swiss Shroom, Bleu Peppercorn or you can build your own burger. Starting with the bun, you can pick white sesame bun, whole wheat bun or honey oat bun (mmmm honey oat). Step 2, choose you patty of beef, lamb, pork or chicken. Step 3 comes my favourite part – add ons! The list seemed endless but be careful, it is easy to wrack up quite a burger bill because bacon, guacamole, fried egg, Portobello mushroom, beetroot, caramelized onions, grilled bananas, jalapeno, cheddar and emmenthal cheese all look very appetizing TOGETHER! Step 4 is sauce time and with choices like homemade BBQ sauce, wasabi mayo, Bleu cheese dressing, smoke chipotle and more it’s just too mouth watering. My brother built a burger because he has better self control. Mr. Foodie has poor self control but was a bit lazier so he went for *drum roll*……
Fat Basterd – Double beef patties, extra thick bacon, cheddar cheese, fried egg and home made Fatboy’s sauce on sesame bun with chips and salad
The burger was very well built and looking quite like the Leaning Tower of Pisa but after giving up on the idea of being able to bite down on it like a normal burger, Mr. Foodie tackled it side ways. The beef patty was juicy, well seasoned and flavoursome. Combined with bacon, cheese and egg, it was one tasty burger. This burger however does set you back about RM27 (approx. AUD10).
You don’t often find pork patty burgers so it was something I wanted to try. Obviously that means this place is not halal.
Mahalo – Bacon stuffed pork patty, caramelised onions, grilled pineapple, melted Montery Jack cheese and creamy mayo on sesame seed bun.
First of all, just because minced pork is only one type of pork we must stuff it with bacon. Best idea ever! I loved it. The patty was so juicy and full of flavour with the sweetness from grilled pineapple and caramelised onions this is the best pork burger I’ve ever had.
My brother decided to build his own burger which looked pretty decent. His choices were Sesame Bun, Beef Patty, Caramelized Onion, Fried Egg, Onion Rings and Mozzarella Cheese. The beer battered onion ring looked pretty good.
We had a good time there before heading off for dessert across the pathway. I look forward to going back there again when I return. If you’re not a fan of burgers there’s a foot long beef hot dog with the lot called The Stiffee with chopped bacon, chili queso, onions and fried tortilla strips. Of course they also serve Philly Cheese Steak. If you still have the space in your stomach, try their milkshakes and desserts too. Peanut butter milkshake with Baileys is an option. Just saying.
